PLEASE SEND A 2022 MNRTF NOMINATING PETITION

The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) has begun its 2022 process for selecting land for public funding. Individuals have the opportunity to recommend land for the Michigan DNR to acquire with funding from MNRTF.  Last year KORC recommended that the DNR secure over 15,000 acres to expand the Keweenaw Tip Recreation Area. You responded in a massive way by sending in hundreds of nomination forms and letters to the DNR. This got their attention! 

While the DNR and State of Michigan weren't ready to act in 2021 — now they are! 

The DNR, KORC, conservation and recreation organizations, local municipalities, and stakeholders are working together to secure tens of thousands of acres of at-risk land and the motorized trail system. Things are moving quickly and your help is needed by March 2022. The current momentum was catalyzed by our collective voice last year advocating for the expansion of the Keweenaw Tip Recreation Area and securing all ATV and snowmobile trails in Keweenaw County. 

Now is the time for our collective voice to be heard again loud and clear! Together we can protect incredible natural landscapes and watersheds, prevent fragmentation, and secure outdoor recreation resources critical to our local economy.

This time we've made it even easier for you to nominate the land and the network of trails for the DNR to acquire. A map is included showing the suggested land and the Keweenaw County snowmobile and ATV system. You need to add your personal contact information and any additional thoughts to the partially pre-filled MNRTF PDF package.

​STEP 1 – Download the MNRTF Nomination form and map PDF package

STEP 2 – Fill out your name and contact details (Section 1) and add any additional comments including noting whether you are a resident or visitor who recreates in the area (Section 13)

STEP 3 – Sign and date, and mail to:
